Courtyard, Frederick County Courthouse, corner of West Patrick and Court Streets, Frederick, Maryland, 21701

Other than his statue in the United States Capitol's National Statuary Hall, the John Hanson National Memorial is the first place Americans have ever had to honor their first president.

In 2012, the John Hanson Memorial Association donated the John Hanson National Memorial to the government of Frederick County, Maryland, and to the American people.

The Memorial is located next to the site of John Hanson House, and is open to the public at all times. It's lead inscription was written by United States Senator Benjamin Cardin.

The Memorial was funded equally by a State of Maryland bond bill grant and by generous donations made to the John Hanson Memorial Association by many individuals, foundations, corporations and civic groups.

The Memorial was designed and sculpted by nationally renowned sculptor Antonio Tobias Mendez.
